fun game

hi

my first score I got 3.2, with a fuckup, so I'm gonna see how low I can get it

I'm terrible at the point of convergence, and seem to be the best at the point equidistant to the triangle's sides.

I was at 2.04 for the first round, but then I got somewhat impatient with it when I realized I needed to do it three times. My final score was 3.17.

That was pretty fun, even though my cat jumped in my lap during one of them. Horrible score on that one! Haha. :)

While it seems as though "LOL" is spam, he is not doing it to bump his post count.

While posting just LOL is discouraged, the rule is mainly applied to those who are using it as a way to bump their post count.

Maybe this should be clearified in the rules soon.

I'm taking PreCal/Calculus 1, so its a mix of geometry, algebra and a bunch of other doodads.

Easy-Peasy, but math has never been my downfall. Now ELA, that's a different story...

I have no idea. The younger you are the earlier you take certain types of math. I mean, they're making kids take multiplication in 2nd grade now. >_<

Why is it that you can multiply, add, subtract, be to the power of, etc with zero, but you cannot divide? What's so special about division?

"But, in the case of zero, repeated subtraction of zero will never yield a remainder less than zero. Dividing by zero by repeated subtraction results in a series of subtractions that never ends." - from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_by_zero)

It's an impossibility, you will never get anywhere. Because computers don't know how to get out of infinite loops on their own checks were put in place to through an error when it happens. It has become so prevalent because anyone learning programming is bound to do this several times.

This game is not math. It really isn't, nor is it geometry. There is not calculations to do in your head, you simply need a steady hand and to keep a close eye on the pixels.

Yes, but you do need to know grade 8 geometry to know all the terms in the game. I'm sure everyone knows them though ;)

Trial and error could probably work for almost anyone though, just to see what they mean.

I only forgot what convergence is.

The rest I did fairly okay on, but convergence is what got me overall.

erik
10-21-2008, 03:48 PM
it's not geometry as much as it is a steady hand and vocab to figure out what the words mean

and you can't divide by zero because in essence zero isn't really a number, it's just a representation of nothing, along with all the reasons from wikipedia that have been listed

Hmm, interesting question. I think it's probably just an impossibility, a representation of nothingness (as erik said). Then again, the vacuum of space is apparently not nothingness, but so called dark matter, so who knows.

Yeah. It doesn't seem like there a lot of mathematicians out there trying to figure new stuff out, it seems like they're resigned to thinking all math systems as already discovered. Do you guys think there are any new major math breakthroughs that can still be achieved?

Not math really, but Physics and Chemistry equations are going to keep coming.

Math really is the only definite science. It's all about True and False, and how to get the value of x when you only know y and z[ed]. Those same principles are being used in the other sciences, but any new equations will likely fall under those disciplines rather than a mathematical breakthrough.
