During today's Nintendo Direct, a sequel for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was announced by Reggie. This game will be on 3DS, and will be sort of a new take on the old school, top down perspective Zelda games. It will use the 3DS' capabilities to provide a sense of height and depth to the world, with a lot of the action taking place on multiple levels vertically. Looks like this game's new feature will be the fact that Link can become a 2D drawing and move horizontally within walls, giving you a different view of the area and allowing you to reach previously inaccessible areas.

Anyway, this game is set to be released during the holiday season later this year. LttP's probably my second favorite game ever, so I'm really excited to see how this game turns out. I don't currently own a 3DS, so to that I simply say, Nintendo:

I agree with that sentiment PK. If ever there was a reason for me to get a 3DS, this would be it.

This looks amazing! Using different levels to solve puzzles looks good and the Wallpaper mechanic looks interesting. Does this mean the Dark World will be back?

LttP is definitely my favourite Zelda, so happy right now. Want to go replay it after hearing the news...

What do you think they'll call it? Link to the Past 2 doesn't sound right - Link to the Future maybe?

So excited for this. Sequel to the best Zelda? Hell yes!

This might actually motivate me to pick up A Link to the Past and beat that game first.

What I see here looks amazing, and the 3D looks amazing in concept. It's sure to be a promising title!

I guess it goes without saying that this goes in the "The Heroe Falls" timeline?

Today has been a good day for gaming. A Link to the Past sequel, Earthbound coming to the Wii U virtual console, and PAX Prime releasing its badges today. All I can say is that I'm so excited for this! I'm really interested to see what could happen with a sequel to arguably the best game of the series.

What do you think they'll call it? Link to the Past 2 doesn't sound right - Link to the Future maybe? If Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass, and Spirit Tracks are any indication, it's possible that it'll have a name based on the new game mechanic rather than one based on the fact that it's a sequel.

Re: The gameplay video - It was pretty cool to see what appears to be a full rehash of the Tower of Hera from LttP, complete with Moldorm as the dungeon boss. The old school sound effects were a nice touch too, I hope they stay in the final version of the game. I thought the remixed dungeon music sounded good too. Dat brass.

As for the gameplay itself, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. I'm glad they didn't go back to the previous DS games' method of forcing you to use the stylus to move around.

Completely off topic, but I hope they decide to make at least one new retro-style Metroid game at some point, seeing as how they've now done it with both Mario (NSMB series) and Zelda. As much as I love the Primes, I prefer the sidescrollers.

Kennyan
04-18-2013, 01:09 PM
Well all the main Metroid games, i.e. 1-4, have been 2D sidescrolling so one would hope that if they ever make 5 it would follow suit.. And if they don't want to do Metroid 5, could they at least consider a remake of Return of Samus? It's the one Metroid game that has eluded me..

I'm liking what I saw in the gameplay trailer. Though I hope that the Moldorm boss is made less annoying to fight this time around. at the very least, don't reset his health if you fall out of the arena.

Which is something that makes the game a lot more appealing. While there was a Zelda I and II, they at least had a full title to make them contrast.

A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda title so this news when I saw it just about had me jumping for joy. I'm so super excited for it.

Though as mentioned, my 3DS is going to have a lot of love this year while my consoles slightly suffer. All I have planned for consoles really are GTA V and Watch Dogs.

3DS has at least 5 games planned for this year.

And I now hear my wallet crying.

It's not much, but we got a little more gameplay and info during yesterday's Nintendo Direct (video):

This game will take place "far in the future" and doesn't feature the same Link from LttP. Iwata hints at a possible second Triforce. Also, we get a quick clip of Link actually going between worlds.

the1stpkmnfan
08-09-2013, 10:17 AM
I like the transistion between the worlds. I kind of already figured it will be a different Link, especially during the time the game is taking place. Hopefully the previous Link gets a legacy shown in some way.

I suppose it does, but at the same time it still kinda bothers me since I'm not really a fan of the gold boxarts for Zelda titles--it just makes them all look too boring and samey to me. Like for instance, I'm really disappointed with the US cover for Wind Waker HD:
http://abload.de/img/ylrtll8c9zku.jpg
Much prefer the more colorful European/Japanese versions, myself (just so much more visually appealing and pleasant than the silly gold filter and captures the actual unique feel of the game better than the filter, which more makes it seem like just another Zelda title to me), but that's me.

the1stpkmnfan
08-29-2013, 11:17 AM
Personally I'm not picky on the use of gold on Zelda box arts. It's okay on OoT 3D and wind Waker/HD, but the art for Between Worlds it's getting kind of redundant.

So apparently Rupee collecting is going to be "more important than ever". Wonder what that means? Lots of things to buy? Very expensive things to buy? Limited supply of them?

More important rupees = code for Tingle and his evil Triforce Charts make a cameo appearance to unlock secret levels in Wind Waker HD.

I think i read something along the lines that said maybe that items will now be buy-able rather than finding them in dungeons. IF, and this is a big if, it's true, i can see them using this to test ideas for a non-linear zelda which is what they implied they want to do for the Wii U zelda.

Kennyan
09-06-2013, 03:03 PM
I would love for there to be a Zelda game as non-linear as the original one.. Just as long as the Rupee collecting become important to the point that you're spending most of the game time grinding, because that's not what Zelda is about..

Apple314
10-01-2013, 11:56 AM
Looks like you were right, "dungeon" items are bought in shops and this means that dungeons can be tackled in any order. Interesting... trouble is, first thing I'd want to do is grind for rupees until I can buy them all. However, apparently you can rent the items out first.

Kennyan
10-01-2013, 11:31 PM
I just now realized that I left out a "doesn't" in my last post.. But yeah, it will be awesome with non-linear Zelda again..

cHicKeLoR
10-02-2013, 03:49 AM
I could imagine that aside from quests giving you a heartpiece there could potentially be some that reward you with alot of rupees as well... well if they put those in the game.
I am just wondering what you will find in the dungeon when there is no item inside (or no active/dungeon item). well .. looks awesome anyway and I'm going to play it.

The collectors edition looks pretty cool. Although I would love to know how big the poster is. The copy of Awakening.. is it a code or is it somehow bound to the new game... what I mean is.. can I just gift that to one of my friends? That would be nice. The chest sounds cool but I guess it will just catch dust over time.

Well... that being said, if this comes to my homecountry for a reasonable price I think I'll buy it.

Finished the game last night and wow it was amazing. So many good ideas that I can't wait to see translated into the Wii U Zelda. If they can perfect what they've done and increase the dungeon difficulty a bit then the next Zelda will be absolutely amazing.

Also for order I did, Eastern Palace, House of Gales, Tower of Hera, Thieves Hidout, Desert Palace, Turtle Rock, Ice Ruins, Swamp Palace, Skull Woods, Dark Palace.

So far I've been doing the dungeons in order (Eastern Palace, House of Gales, Tower of Hera, Dark Palace, Swamp Palace, Skull Woods, Thieves Hideout, and Ice Ruins. Desert Palace will be next, followed by Turtle Rock).

This game has been a lot of fun. The only bad thing I can say about it is that it's the latest Nintendo game to fall victim to Nintendo's most annoying habit. What is this most annoying habit of Nintendo's?

"You've been playing for a while. Why don't you take a break?"

I hate it when they put these messages in their games....especially when it comes up after about 30-40 minutes of playtime (30-40 minutes is not a while, Nintendo).
