Break it Down!
...

announcer:Ladies and Gentleman Boys and...

whoa whoa whoa... i don't want infringement here!

Scorpion King here and Here's something I thought I never do again...

I'm thinking of a marathon of where players bring out there best runs in them... The question is how am i going to set it up....

I'm thinking this marathon will just be for fun, not for a charity... to see if you guys can bring out the competitiveness within you. I just want to gauge interest to see who might be down and we will see how long this marathon might go for!
[strike:2vri12bk]Dates aren't clear yet since I might not have a best idea at the moment![/strike:2vri12bk]
8/16-8/19
I do however want to do it sometime in august probably be a 3 to 4 day thing... with maybe or maybe not overnight shifts...

this will depend on you guys... let me know and I will consider it all!

......I wasn't kidding when I said I don't know what this is. Like, seriously, what is this?

Bascially, Calvin wants to host a marathon, and if memory serves me right, he'd like to have gamers and commentators (like any marathon we've seen). And with no charity to play for, we can just chillax, have fun, and let it be a casual get together? I remember he and Ruju wanted to do something like this in the past, and a lot of people showed interest the idea.

Not so sure about the competitive nature myself but sounds like a fun idea, i'm in.

Consider me interested. It will depend on the dates, but if you need commentators, I would like to help out with that.

Wow... Sounds like this will definitely be a hit then, the reason I say competitive because I want you guys to challenge yourselves in your runs and if you can beat a person best... I may even keep a log of your personal best and see if anyone can beat, obviously has to be on stream... So this might be an annual thing if this is successful

Either than that, here are my tentative dates and I'm asking for your opinions

Do you guys want overnight runs or just stop at a certain time, and my max is a week so it could be a 3 to 7 days let me know how you guys feel?

I think night shifts could go either way. On one hand, day shifts are going to be more accessible to everyone, and so more popular. But, opening up night shifts allows people with odd work schedules and community members in different time zones (Australia, for example) to participate more easily. I also think it would depend on when you decide on doing this, since schools are most likely going to start up in August-ish for some people, and that could prevent some of us from doing night shifts we normally wouldn't have a problem with.

One possibility is to let late night be overflow/open space. Runs that took longer than expected can have a little lee-way, and whoever wants to take the extra time can.

As for number of days, that'll rest solely on the amount of time it will take to do all of the runs planned. Basically, see how much content is going to be streamed and plan accordingly.

Being from Sweden a weekend night/early morning shift would work great.. However it would depend entirely on the date as august is quite packed for me..

the1stpkmnfan
07-12-2013, 09:23 AM
Overnight shifts wouldn't be too bad of an idea. But if we choose that, I'd rather fancy this to be a 3 day event at most.

If it's more than 3 days, I just wonder if people will get exhausted, so stopping at one point and picking up at the same point in the morning would be a safe zone. Not to mention with school coming up, and I know in late August I'm going to be moving back onto campus.

So the last full weekend of August and the 30th are going to be dedicated to school. The weekends of August 12th or the 19th are a pretty safe bet. And my availability is looking good those weekends.

A little marathon fun is something I'd be up for. I think sometime in August would be good. Also, an eight hour break every night sounds like a good idea to me for giving our US audience a time to say, "Hey! Go to sleep!", although it might somewhat alienate our foreign audience. This marathon would be a good place to experiment with new things.

BM_Panda
07-12-2013, 04:45 PM
I'm gonna assume most of the team will be from USA. I'm from the UK, so if you need someone to do a "graveyard shift" on commentary or something, I might be able to help out there.

I appreciate all the feedback and i have made my decision!

August 16th to the 19th
it will either be something early or something later.

I will gladly be a chat op, and I also would love to speedrun Super Mario Sunshine for the marathon.
It should take me under 4 hours.

I'm down for gaming and commentating. I'm going to plan on speed running 4 games in about a 3.5-4 hour block, though that can be split up easily to accommodate others if need be.

Crash Bandicoot: Huge Adventure - 50 minutes
Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced - 1 hour ish
Frogger Adventures: Temple of the Frog - 30 minutes ish
Super Monkey Ball 2 - 1 hour ish

that totals up to about 3 hours and 20 minutes, but that's assuming some good runs, plus adding time in for changing games, so maybe 4 hours would be good. That gives a bit of a safety net, or if I manage to get everything done, maybe someone else can use the extra time.

EDIT: just checked my college schedule. Classes start on the 19th, so I'll be good to play.

As for gaming, most of my speed runs stem from N64 games. I'm thinking of some Kirby 64, Mario 64, DK64, Space Station Silicon Valley, etc. I'll come back soon with specific games and times.

Haha, I have only beat the game 100% once, and I don't remember much of the extra stuff. I'd be down for just the any% run, and then if we finish early we can just keep going.

I'm slightly late here, but this sounds really fun! I'm also totally down for chat opping if you need it. :)

As for overnight runs vs breaks, I'm quite honestly fine with either, though I suppose it just depends on when they are. I'm a night owl, but I can get up for marathons if need be. But I also don't want to ostracize our international/daytime/evening worker audience, so I'm fine with whatever y'all choose.

Blaumagier

Let's see. I'd like to do Super Mario 3D Land (1:20), SMB3 race with Alan (20 min tops), Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (3ish hours) and Mega Man (40 minutes).

And if you want a longer game somewhere in the schedule, I'm learning Shantae. Currently around 7 hours for 100% run.

I'm not entirely sure how I missed this, but I'm willing to try a run in Majora's Mask where I basically attempt to help as many people as possible within a single 3-day cycle. Such a run would take about 3 hours, since that's about how long a slow 3 day cycle is in that game. And basically, I would be attempting to do pretty much all the Bomber Notebook stuff (except when it simply isn't possible, for example the Priority Mail sidequest, since that has two endings), collect all the stray fairies, defeat all the bosses, and help out other characters that don't get their own entries in the notebook (for example, helping out Kotake). I've attempted this run before, and while it might sound easy, given the number of things to do in this game, it is actually pretty challenging to pull off. I'm available to do this run whenever you can fit me in, my schedule is very open.

Also, if you still need some, I'm willing to act as a chat op.
