You've gotta be kidding.

http://nintendo1ds.com/

This can't be for real. I have no idea what to think about Nintendo right now. Seriously. xD

Your TV or Phone is the dual screen now. WHY. XD

I don't mean to be rude, pkmnfan, but you can't possibly believe this is real, right? It's a parody lol

I'll at least admit that the site looks legit at first glance (until you see the disclaimer), but the concept is too ridiculous for anyone to actually buy it. You silly pkmnfan you.

I feel like one of the only persons who likes this idea. It reminds me of a Super Game boy, or the Game boy advance player. I've always been more partial to playing a game on my TV than on a portable device.

I got a little disappointed seeing the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.

At first I thought it was a funny parody but after reading all its "features" (mainly the TV one) I think it would be an interesting concept. Sure looks more unique than the 2DS that's for sure...

This isn't a handheld, this is a freaking Transformer.

I think the site is at least slightly convincing in the sense that it actually matches the layout of nintendo's site very well. I didn't believe it but I did find it quite amusing.

Of course, the thing is most Game Boy games were 2D, so there wasn't too much of a problem blowing them up to the size of a television screen. Now, on the other hand, most games are 3D (referring to polygonal graphics here of course, not the 3D effect). Combine that with how the 3DS's resolution is 400x240, and blowing those games up on a television screen would make them look like a huge, jaggy mess:

Like, take this image of Animal Crossing at its native resolution:

Now, here's what the image looks like blown up to fill a 1080p set:

And that's a relatively simple game like Animal Crossing. With games with more complicated textures (stuff like Resident Evil: Revelations), the effect would be more pronounced.

Of course, then there's the option of simply keeping the native 400x240 resolution, but that would look pretty tiny on most sets and could easily require you to have to move closer to see what's going on.

Of course, I suppose the option for something like that would be nice, but it definitely comes with its caveats.

Once I saw Bluetooth to phones I started loling. Bluetooth is a terrible medium for video.

Shiron that's if you stretch the image, it doesn't have to be that way
take the WiiU for example
Wii games are rendered in 480, 720, 1080, etc, NOT stretched, and the result is amazing, especially on larger screens

Nintendo announced the 0DS, codenamed the PSVITA because no-one will buy it.

Of course, that's because the Wii U has the juice to render at those resolutions though. A $99 3Ds wouldn't be rendering at anymore than the normal 400x240, leaving stretching as the only option to get to higher resolutions, which is the assumption I was working under (alternatively, I suppose there's the option of keeping the parts the same, but compromising something like framerate instead to get higher framerates, but that's probably not a good move). You could add more juice to make it capable of outputting higher resolutions, but then it wouldn't be possible to make at $99.

That is, unless I'm totally misunderstanding something about how all this works still, which is quite possible since this isn't exactly my forte here. xD

That hoax looks pretty legit and I found it quite amusing. Would never have taken it as real though mainly because it looked like someone just snapped a 2ds in half.
