Well, hello again my fellow chocobos. Welcome to the thread that will be the planning and information hub for TSG's 4th Annual Community Week-long Final Fantasy Marathon. The first was organized by Masamune and Carnage, the second by Masamune and myself(slightly), and the third by Tanexion and myself. This time around, Tan's a bit busy with school, which is totally understandable, but both he and/or Masa are more than welcome to assist in setting up this marathon once more. If not, it's all good. I got this.![]()
There's a few specific goals I'd like to stress for this marathon. The emphasis will be largely on community unison, something I feel has been slightly lacking in this awesome forum in the past few months. I won't be arranging a community FF marathon in the summer of 2013, so we all need to make this one go out with an explosion larger and more powerful than Zeromus's Big Bang. Also, while I am the head organizer of this event currently, I am totally open to any ideas or people who would like to help out.
As some of you know, I'm also an LPer on YouTube. It's not much, I suppose, and definitely nothing to brag about, but I'm going to do my utmost to get some LPers that I'm friends with to come and commentate as well. Not only would it bring more people in, but there's many LPers who whole-heartedly support TSG and would gladly help out the community. So I might ask some of the ones that I know, and if they agree, then awesome. I also want all of you! You want to be a commentator? I don't care if you've got less than 10 posts and no medals, put your name down on this thread! You're more than welcome to! There's no better way to get involved than to chat with people and do weird stuff on camera for three hours. Currently, there's no time-frame yet for commentators, except that they will be in 3-hour shifts. Volunteering now simply means that I'll mark you down on a tentative list that will help me organize the schedule as time grows nearer. Of course, you may un-volunteer if you need to. Crap happens.
As far as players go, these are currently even more tentative. However, I have a list of people who have already requested to play certain games. Here's what we're looking at:

If you volunteer to play a game, there are a few necessary things. One, you must keep in contact with me. If you suddenly don't say anything to me for over a month and a half about still being able to play, I will consider you un-volunteered. We've had issues with this in the past, and this is one of the steps I'm taking to counter this. You can see my contact info at the bottom of this post. Also, as currently with the case of Final Fantasy VI, there are two people requesting to play. Many solution are available, one being that both could play different parts of a game. This would mainly be worked out between the players. I know megakidicarus has played FFVI for this marathon in the past, and rinimt is definitely up to the job as well. There may definitely be backup gamers as well should the main player be unable to play for whatever reason. However, to be a backup player, the same rule applies: you must keep in contact with me, or I will remove from the list. It doesn't mean you can't sign up again, but for the sake of my sanity and organization, I am doing this.
There is a rule I'm going to be adding as far as commentary shifts go, and that is that you must either have a webcam or some computer screen capture device to commentate. I'd really appreciate it if there were no "black screen" commentators this year. So either you show yourself with a webcam, or you show your screen and allow for some interaction. This just makes the marathon a bit easier to watch for the viewers on the whole.
Another rule, and equally important, if you plan on having a Skype call in your commentary shift, not including yourself, you may have no more than two people in the call with you. So there can be you, and two additional people in the call. This is mainly because I've gotten some complaints about the past two marathons where there wasn't enough chat interaction and too much of the commentators chatting to themselves in the call. I know it's true, because I also did it, and was in a few Skype calls like this, not really aware of that problem at the time. Now I am though, so I'm laying that rule down.
Lastly, the charity. This is currently undecided, but I've been wondering if it's possible to play for "To Write Love On Her Arms", better known as TWLOHA. They're a "non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery."
