Hiatus over. Not really focusing on gaming at the moment, but I miss this place too much.
I would have much rather have had gen 4 remakes. Gen 4 was better, and the explosion on the internet would have been glorious. Now I'm going to have to listen to trumpets while running into Tentacool and Wingull.
I'm probably going to pick Treecko again, even though it's going to be godawful after the Physical/Special split.
Edit: Aw crap, I just realized that if these are remakes, then the Safari Zone is back. And you're going to have to use your own PokeBlocks as bait. And need the proper bikes. And endure the step counter.
noooooooooo

If you want to build an ivory tower, you're going to need to kill a few elephants.
hoenn is the only region i haven't entered the hall of fame in so i'm going to dive right into this
going to go for treecko since it's the only starter apart from fennekin that i don't have
May 7 is just a good day for Pokemon remakes.
Nintendo is robbing my wallet this year and I do not mind at all. So happy right now! I always thought that Hoenn was one of the more unique and visually interesting regions [ignoring the sea routes anyway], so seeing them upgraded to the XY graphics will be amaaaazing.
Though speaking of the sea routes...while they are numerous and taxing, I still prefer them to caves. Maybe that's just me.
What explains the currents being difficult to navigate, Routes 124/126/127/131 being snooze fests and having to look at water and rocks over and over?
Did you already forget the map I gave you for the current routes? If they get changed, I'm sure another map will be made by someone.
Whoa, I didn't see that coming so soon. Maybe it's just because I'm older now and a year doesn't seem as long, or because I don't have to wait for holidays to get new games now that I buy them myself, but it seems like the Pokemon games are released much closer together than they were when I was a kid. Looking back on it though, RB/Y/GS/C/RS were all released in NA within a five year span, and the longest gaps were two years, between Emerald and DP, and again before Platinum.
Anyway, I'm excited about these games. Emerald was the game that got me back into Pokemon a few years after it was released, but it's hard to go back and play it after moving on to gens 4-6. I'm looking forward to hearing an updated soundtrack, since the originals had good music from a composition standpoint, but I don't like the gen 3 soundfont at all. Assuming these aren't sequels with an altered Hoenn region, I think a few ways to make the water routes more tolerable would be to make surfing quicker, both in terms of movement and in actually entering and exiting the water, and maybe put a Pokemon center in one of the sea routes that serves as a checkpoint you can fly to.
I was just about to say the same thing before I saw your post. I hate caves, especially ones that require Strength (and to a lesser extent now that they're not HMs, Rock Smash/Flash).Originally Posted by Sangome

The thing about caves, though, is that in no Pokémon game do they take nearly as much space and screentime as sea routes do in Hoenn - not to mention Pokémon diversity tends to favor the former in most cases. You'll never hear me complain about sea routes in any other region, because they're used sparingly. In Hoenn? Not so.
Either way, I'd be amazed if they found a solution to this that wouldn't reek of band-aid.
